David Zee Portrait

Reviews

David Zee's CD "Inner Peace" showcases his superb guitar and great songwriting. Particular standouts are the songs "Fire" and "My Soul Aches For You". Zee is an excellent musician but doesn't showboat in his virtuosity. He plays tastefully and this is quite refreshing. Also, the listener can feel the positivity on this record.

Though this music may be categorized as pop/rock, it weighs much more in versatility and intensity. Referring to David Zee's "Inner Peace" CD, these songs can touch us deep in our souls, where other music can not even tread. This is a refreshing wake-up call; telling us that what we may have thought was lost or non-existent surely is found and does exist. This is called PASSION. Passion to love, to laugh, to dance, to live. This is what music is truly about. Zee's songs make us "feel". His voice, along with excellent fellow musicians, melodies, and lyrical content; dance on our emotions. David Zee's songs are not only about his personal experiences, but about ours as well. This is where the connection is. He relates to us...and we, in turn relate. This is way overdue...it's what we've been waiting for. And it's HERE. So sway to it, fly with it, and most importantly, ENJOY it--as great music should be enjoyed! This is a timeless work of art. As all the songs are wonderful...highly recommended is the song "Have I got the love for you"...I'll just say that this song is extremely powerful in all aspects. Zee's CD is a winner!

Jenkintown physician David Zee may seem an unlikely candidate to release an album of love songs, but after winning the first round of the Emergenza Festival with his unique blend of passionate lyrics and pop harmonies, many are wondering if he will be the next Philadelphia area pop sensation. Radio stations from Connecticut to Lancaster, PA have been airing tracks for months from pre-release samples sent for review purposes, and his April 15 Emergenza performance was covered by WCAU-TV News. David is clearly developing a niche for himself with the help of an enthusiastic and loyal audience. The May 26 official release of Inner Peace has been a lifelong goal for Zee, who set aside his musical aspirations to pursue an Internal Medicine degree in 1991. He sees the work as much a longstanding emotional release for himself as his growing number of followers. “If you’re good at something, you have to make it happen no matter how long it takes,” he said of his musical hiatus. The delay provided the artist perspective and a sense of maturity that he says only improved the work. “My music is all about the visceral emotion of relationships, daily personal interactions and life itself. The only way to relate that is through direct experience.” From the intensity of the lead track, Fire, to the haunting melody of Why Does Love, the album illuminates every corner of the human psyche with an empathetic essence of soul that elevates and warms the heart. Other favorite picks among fans are Second Chance and Have I Got the Love for You. The musical influences of Steely Dan, Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald are instantly recognizable among the tracks that share both a sense of familiarity and freshness. It’s almost regrettable to classify the music as being pop/rock, because the distinctive sound transcends existing categories. Zee has managed to create a balanced fusion worthy of music’s greatest talents. The album, currently available at Tower Records Online and iTunes, was originally projected to appeal to women ages 30 – 45, but positive advance reviews from men and women of all ages have buoyed sales expectations. “Both genders have common experiences, even if it is from different perspectives,” Zee says. “It’s not surprising the music bridges that gap – that’s what music is all about.” David is lead vocalist for the album and his other musical talents include playing acoustic and electric guitar, percussion and bass.
